Jacques Gaines’ new album coming out in 2021

Songwriting is in my blood

I have been writing songs since I was 17 years old. At age 16, I started the laborious task of learning the acoustic guitar.  Although I never really was the most incredible cover performer, it did not stop me from quickly realizing the powerful creative outlet of writing songs from scratch.

The Soul Attorneys first album cover
The First Soul Attorneys album was released by Sony music in the spring of 1996. We opened up for 36 Celine Dion shows and went on to get a Canadian gold record. It has since been shelved.

For the better part of 14 years, I made a living off of songwriting and performing. But because I discovered photography as a new creative outlet, family life, and just trying to get by, I let my songwriting drift to the wayside for the last ten years.

The urge to write songs is still very strong.

Since 2007, my songwriting has been somewhat anemic, I thought it would be good to change this in 2021.

I recently rediscovered my joy and love for software like Propellerheads Reason, Steinberg’s Cubase, and Ableton live. I just cannot get enough of discovering new features and enhanced ways of working with DAW (Digital audio workstation) software.

Propellerheads Reason 11 software rack interface
Inspiring software like Reason has brought me back to my first software love of songwriting and music production.
Cubase 8 software interface
Cubase allows you to really do anything in music. From a small demo to a full out album. Everything is there to get you on your way. Just do not forget to have many hours of instruction manual reading ahead of you

Even though I have not done a great deal in the past years, I had the opportunity to work and collaborate with artists that I particularly admire on a project called Volume Won. It was an awakening. I had forgotten how cool it was to produce a full-fledged album from an initial idea.

My latest album

I will invite you guys to the process

So I am going to be sharing my work in progress on a new album slated for the end of 2021. This blog post is just to let you know that I will be posting beats, song ideas, and collaborations with you all.

In the meantime, I thought I might show you some of what I have done in the past
