The Canon EOS R5 vs Canon EOS R6

The Canon EOS R5 versus the Canon EOS R6

As you can see by the date of this blog post, both the Canon EOS R5 and Canon EOS R6 have not yet been released. These two full-frame mirrorless cameras WILL have a groundbreaking and colossal impact on the professional photography and prosumer photography world. It really is Canon’s first serious attack on the full-frame mirrorless camera market.

Let’s plan ahead

So, it really isn’t that bad to be planning ahead? Anticipation has always been a good thing- Right? Therefore, I thought that it might be a good idea to look at what the differences between the two cameras were going to be.

For now, here are some of the specs that I researched from Canonrumors and the Canon site itself

Other rumored differences between the EOS R5 and the EOS R6

The EOS R5 will be magnesium alloy. The R6 will most likely be a more standard and consumer-style construction.

Rumored IBIS is really promising for both the R5 and the R6

R6 vs R5 really looks a lot like 5D vs 6D

I really think that the R5 vs R6 relationship will be the same relationship as that of the Canon EOS 5D vs Canon EOS 6D relationship. This is proof that Canon’s old marketing strategy works. Most likely you will now see all mirrorless Canon camera models following DSLR structure.

Therefore, like the DSLRs, the R5 will be geared toward those photographers that wish to approach photography professionally i.e. wedding photographers/videographers, event photographers, and commercial photographers needing great tethering capabilities and good pro workflow delivery of multimedia images in general.

The R6 will be for the prosumer who takes photography as either a serious hobby or a light profession.

My first impressions on the camera specifications

The R6 will be a cut-down version of the R5. I have been known to give my share of advice but bear in mind that I think that those making the decision between the two mirrorless cameras should pay attention to those features that are taken away from the R6.  As obvious as it may sound, if you do not need the added features from the R5 you can be sure that the R6 will do the trick.
